View Full Version : Which is better? New Version... PS2, N64 or Original Xbox?
codinthepocket 03-05-2008, 02:55 PM This one is a tough one. i can't decide and the console's all have great things about them. I really don't know. I only just side with the N64. Only just because of Mario 64 and Zelda games. And obviously banjo-kazooie and goldeneye.
strika234 03-05-2008, 02:57 PM you should have put this in the retro section... oh well
I like the ps2, because its still selling well to this day. And it has a S***load of games.
codespace 03-05-2008, 02:59 PM
Coldguy 03-05-2008, 05:53 PM N64 hands down, I know most people compare it to the PS3 now but in the day it had all the really good games.
Mr Eibmoz 03-05-2008, 08:04 PM You know N64 was PS1 gen console right? Gamecube was the PS2/XBox1 era Nintendo console.... and the Cube pwns all.
BrianKotarski 03-06-2008, 03:33 AM Xbox, great system or greatest?
I. Games
Knights of the Old Republic I & II
Republic Commando
Fable
DOA Xtreme Beach Volleyball. :D
II. Fetures
Voice Chat
Downloadable Content
Media Center Extender
Customizable Soundtracks(well in theory)
and if both of those don't matter to you, Mod it.
Makelevi 03-09-2008, 12:46 AM Playstation 2 takes it easily for me, it was epic and produced approximately eighty billion freaking games, pushed some new graphical boundaries I guess...but the Nintendo 64 was brilliant as well, and introduced a lot of epicness...the original Xbox I did not own so I give it a nice automatic third place...which isn't bad until you say, "Hey, that's out of three!"
heyfling 03-09-2008, 01:16 AM N64 had some of the best games:
Mario 64
Mariokart 64
Goldeneye
Perfect Dark
LoZ:OoT
LoZ:MM
SSB
Paper Mario
Starfox 64
BigAndiD 03-09-2008, 11:02 AM Never had a PS2, honestly no game made me buy this console.
Love my N64 and xbox, N64 still gets some love every now and again.
unohisname 03-09-2008, 11:05 AM The ps2 had more games then any other console if really is better then and other 2 xbox had halo,n64 had mario 64,Ps2 god of war,MGS,GTA,RC so many games.
unohisname 03-09-2008, 11:08 AM Sega's Dreamcast, Sony's PlayStation 2, the Nintendo GameCube and Microsoft's Xbox. not N64
PopTrogdor 03-09-2008, 11:39 AM well dreamcast is so under-rated, but it was and still is such a good console, with games like Soul Calibur 1, the House of the Dead games with light gun, Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, Skies of Arcadia, Phantasy Star Online, Powerstone, Grandia 2, Shenmue etc... All epic games, and if they had a multiplatform system back then, it would have made this console it really would have, it would have been better than the PS2 i think, as they would have had basically the alot more of the games.
N64, kinda put me off with the cartridges tbh, everyone loves Goldeneye ofcourse, that thats it for me. Go to say, Crash Team Racing, all 3d models, then look at mario kart 64, the characters are like....sprites. So its that kinda thing that put me off that console really.
Original Xbox also put me off, just because i wasnt really into the games they had i guess, i never really looked into it. I think it was mainly due to the fact i was used to the playstation so i just went for number 2.
Gamecube, there wasn't much else apart from Burnout and SSBM that i wanted to play, but again, didn't really look much into it, as my mate had one, and well, wasn't too keen.
So PS2 won for me, but thats because it was the console i owned, its probably the same with most people, if you didn't own every console, you always believe the one you have is the best. But again if you had either Dreamcast or PS1 up there, it would have been a very close call :P
pixelage 03-09-2008, 01:54 PM I voted for the N64, although I don't think that you should be comparing it to the PS2 or Xbox (not in the same generation).
zbiggie 03-09-2008, 02:48 PM I still think N64 was a better system. Probably because I was at that time a Ninboy (Nintendo fan boy). But I did like the xbox. Personally I really liked the big controllers since they really felt comfortable, wish they never got rid of them.
Eulogy 33 03-09-2008, 02:54 PM Voted Original Xbox. Great games like Halo 1+2, KOTOR 1+2, Jade Empire etc. Also the ability to Save Music onto Hard Disk. When I got my XBOX, I was living with 3 friends in a house share. So having our combined music collection in one place was invaluable. The only thing I disliked about the XBOX (and now the 360) is there was no built in Fast Forward or Rewind feature for music playback.
JJMAC383 03-09-2008, 04:37 PM Original Xbox....
Halo
KotOR 1
KotOR 2
etc awesomeness
Diortem 03-09-2008, 04:45 PM I voted PS2 by library alone... though personally, this was the time I skipped consoles entirely.
PopTrogdor 03-09-2008, 09:16 PM Original Xbox....
Halo
KotOR 1
KotOR 2
etc awesomeness
but then look at the ps2 library, and think, hmmm, there are millions of amazing games, where as the xbox had halo and kotor, as well as fable which i have on pc with more content, oh no. So yeh, in terms of good games, xbox gets trounced, even by the n64, so this is a very bold statement you make

your right many of the great games (if not most were ported)... i choose the xbox because i had both an Xbox and a ps2... and i played the xbox more and had more fun when i played it... yes the Ps2 had a bigger library, but i enjoyed the experience on the xbox more...
(i'm not a fan boy i just preferred the xbox over ps2)
nick10234 03-13-2008, 06:43 AM ps2 because the library and that is what i have just had more fun on it i would still play those games today
greeneyedpsyko 03-13-2008, 08:59 AM I chose Original Xbox because that's what I felt that I played Its more. I have all of em and like them all about equally. PS2 has some of my favorite games ever, but then... so does my "se"xbox? I don't know. I like all three.
RatTail 03-13-2008, 04:25 PM I'd have to go with the original Xbox. I never had a PS2, so I can't say much on that. However, I loved the N64 because of amazing games like Mario64 and Ocarina of Time. But the Xbox just looks so much nicer and it has its own amazing games such as Halo and Half-Life 2.
ShelbyF 03-29-2008, 12:40 AM I had more fun with my N64 than I did with my Xbox or Playstation 2. Perfect Dark at the time was just so awesome. The weapons were so great that some of them were even cool to watch just reloading. Other than that, I also love Jet Force Gemini, Donkey Kong 64, Mario Kart, Star Fox 64, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron. I don't have nearly as many fond memories of the games I played on the other two systems.
nathanhale 03-29-2008, 08:51 PM n64 best console ever.
Nathanscott101 03-29-2008, 09:52 PM N64 < PS2 < Xbox
Inzader 03-29-2008, 10:20 PM Hand's down it's n64. Oh I miss all the gliches in Mario 64.
Diortem 03-31-2008, 09:53 AM IBut the Xbox just looks so much nicer and it has its own amazing games such as Halo and Half-Life 2.
I still want to know who had to sell their soul to make Half Life 2 work so well on the original Xbox. Seriously, requirements alone on PC, how the hell did they do that? (I mean, it was even running a cut down version of XP! How the HELL did this work?)
codinthepocket 04-02-2008, 12:50 PM I still want to know who had to sell their soul to make Half Life 2 work so well on the original Xbox. Seriously, requirements alone on PC, how the hell did they do that? (I mean, it was even running a cut down version of XP! How the HELL did this work?)
Half-Life 2 on the Xbox? How did that happen? And cut-down XP also? You lying... :undecided:
wobyer 04-03-2008, 07:39 PM original xbox. it had the first 2 halo games
ploogle 04-03-2008, 08:30 PM I still want to know who had to sell their soul to make Half Life 2 work so well on the original Xbox. Seriously, requirements alone on PC, how the hell did they do that? (I mean, it was even running a cut down version of XP! How the HELL did this work?)
No, not XP. It runs a modified version of Windows, though. Just not XP exactly.
OkamiUiriamu 04-07-2008, 09:34 PM N64 Mario 64 There has not been a good mario game made since.
piston11792 04-07-2008, 09:42 PM i have my fondest memories with n64. loved my ps2, but never owned an original xbox. however i love 360.
SWSilentkiller 04-07-2008, 11:00 PM I remember good times on the N64. Mario 64, Super Smash Bros., and Paper Mario are three great games that come to mind. Paper Mario being probably my favorite of all time. Too bad my N64 doesn't work :(
abflo 04-08-2008, 06:17 AM i think the ps2 is the best console
Duffman X18 04-09-2008, 11:03 PM With my gaming life I would say PS2. I probably spent thousands of hours playing single-player on games like Ace Combat, Jack and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, and the list goes on. The 360 might beat it out for obvious reasons, but yeah, so far no console has brought me more joy than the PS2.
zaphoduk 04-10-2008, 05:15 AM Wow, i've just realised i've owned 2 of all the following consoles, Sega Saturn, PS1, PS2, Xbox, Gamecube, N64 and Dreamcast. That's a bit mad really, always sold them then a new game would come out a year or so later that i fancied trying.
Only ever had about 5 games for the N64, didn't like it much.
Gamecube was decent for Mario Party and pretty much nothing else.
PS2 had some decent games on but my fave has to be the XBox. There's just so much you could do with the XBox, i was streaming TV shows to it for years before media streaming became the norm with PS3 and 360.
As for Dreamcast, i loved it at the time but now feel it was quite over-rated. Before the current gen of 360, PS3, Wii came out, i bought myself a second Dreamcast for the purpose of nostalgia. At the time i was playing things like Smackdown on the PS2 and Burnout, Halo 2 and Star Wars Battlefront on the XBox. To go back and play the Dreamcast, same generation console as the above i might add, was such a reality check. Soul Calibur looked aweful. Sound samples were distorted and fuzzy in most games. The machine was really showing it's age. I bought a Saturn not long after to satisfy my Panzer Dragoon and Nights fix and boy was i shocked at how bad that looked hehe.
Nintendo consoles have always been a bit odd for me. I've not really liked one since the SNES. That was a pretty decent hardcore gaming machine but then they started getting more and more casual with each new console until we end up with the Wii, which is so dumb we even have one in the office in the chill-out room where you see lunatics thrashing around on Wii-Sports at all times of the day. They've reduced gaming to gimicky family guff and taken away the fun of hardcore gaming.

Dude were in the same boat I owned 2 (3 for ps1) of all of them too.
BTW I forgot to say JET SET RADIO FTW!
ritterjcat 04-15-2008, 09:57 AM Gotta go with the PS2. XBox had hardware issues and all those amazing games people listed were also available for PC (and better on PC, too!) I bought an N64 to replace my Sega Genesis. It was a very good system. Mario 64 is still one of the best games of all time and Goldeneye was the first great console FPS. However, after a few months, I traded it in for a PlayStation and never looked back. The Gamecube was an excellent system plagued that key issue: not enough good games. With the exception of the dinky Dpad, it had the best controller of any system I've ever played on and oh, those exclusives: Metroid, Zelda, Smash Brothers. I burned so many hours on those games... Good times!
