View Full Version : Does anyone still own a gameboy advance?
th3bun 03-04-2008, 10:18 PM Lately everyones been talking about the the bigger game consoles,or newer handhelds.Does anyone still have the gameboy?
remember with out the gameboy there would be no DS or Psp
-----------------------
Personally when i was still a kid, i always played Pokemon on my gameboy, all the "cool" kids had it.
now as a more experienced gamer, i just leave my gameboy somewhere in my room and forget it exists.Until today when i was looking for a book off mine, i happened to find it right there.the screen was really badly scratched, but to tell you guys the truth i didnt really care....its old.
which brought me to asking you all, Does anyone still own a Gameboy Advance?
JJMAC383 03-04-2008, 10:20 PM I still have my Original Game boy... and it still works, there is a small line of pixels that doesn't on one of them, but i haven't checked the other one
Sinfulfate 03-04-2008, 10:55 PM I have 2 gameboy advances and 1 gameboy color.
th3bun 03-04-2008, 11:15 PM I have 2 gameboy advances and 1 gameboy color.
why two?
Mallico 03-04-2008, 11:23 PM I have a GBA SP, but I also have a DS.
Sinfulfate 03-04-2008, 11:37 PM why two?Wifi didn't exist back then so in order to trade over Pokemon from one Pokemon game to the next I needed two GBAs. Its pretty sad I know.
SWSilentkiller 03-04-2008, 11:54 PM I own one gameboy color with the back cover missing, a gamboy advance also with the back cover missing, a SP that has sticky L and R buttons, and a original DS with a broken top screen

Accidents? Or you just dont care about them?
Mallico 03-05-2008, 01:40 AM I forgot to mention I also have a Gameboy Pocket (blue).
Maulzorz 03-05-2008, 01:49 AM On the entire gameboy series the only good games were pokemon, the DS has MPH, Mario kart (the GBA one sucked), and more.
zbiggie 03-05-2008, 02:01 AM No I just gave it to some kid (family friend), not to long ago. I only had 2 games for it and thought it was a waste in my possession. plus i did get a ds not to long ago
Mr Eibmoz 03-05-2008, 03:07 AM Ive got an SP, a micro, a black GBA with an afterburner installed (still better than the SP or micro) and a clear GBA.
4 swords and Crystal Chron ftw! I'm quite gutted that CC on Wii isnt using DS.
SquirminSquirel 03-05-2008, 10:06 AM I own a gameboy pocket :D and it works perfectly.
strika234 03-05-2008, 10:07 AM gameboy advance sp FTW!!!
greeneyedpsyko 03-05-2008, 10:45 AM I had a gameboy color, and gave it to my sister for Christmas. (free gifts FTW) it still works.
I really do want to get a psp
PopTrogdor 03-05-2008, 01:52 PM ok, i am actually intrigued about what those people would buy for the ds, this isn't attacking anyones views, im just interested, as none of the games appeal to me.
I voted for the psp, not for the games, as the really good games have only begun to hit the market, except Daxter and Ratchet and clank which was a little while a go, but for the extra capabilities i get with having a PS3 as well, so its not like im saying the psp is any better, i just have more use for it.
So yeh, what games are actually...good on the ds? And don't say the n64 ports please, as yeh you can play as luigi on mario 64, but there isn't much else different.
strika234 03-05-2008, 02:07 PM ^ you can play as yoshi and wario too.:p
anyways, I generally play games on my games systems, so for me I tend to fall towards the GOOD GAMES. for example, you have the attourney games (phoenix wright and now apollo justice),they have games like star fox, zelda and mario kart, they have strategy games like advance wars, the have puzzle games like hotel dusk and proffersor layton and the curious village, the have rythem games like elite beat agents....
Do I need to continue? If you can't find something you like, then obviously you're just not trying.
Abelmisi 03-05-2008, 03:29 PM I have a DS lite, a GBA and a GB Color all in excellent condition. :)
PopTrogdor 03-05-2008, 05:13 PM ^ you can play as yoshi and wario too.:p

hmm well not really ever played or cared about getting phoenix wright, and as i detest zelda id give that a miss, also as in my house we have double dash and mario kart 64, i dont need to use a handheld to play that if i really want, and anywho, i hav ctr, which is better :P elite beat agents is just another rhythm game which are starting to get way too flooded, but i havent played it so couldn't say. Same with professor layton, i couldn't comment on it really, as with every game i have never played :D I know i won't get a ds ever, but i was just curious what people 'play' as the main sellers are brain training which just ends up insulting you, mario and sonic at the olympics, Nintendogs and so on. There really isn't anything that jumps out and begs to be played by me really. Apart from Bomber Man :D
Are there good platformers that isnt a mario 64? Any action adventures? RPG's? they are key for me tbh. Also, Fighting games, used to love fighting games on my gameboy :D But anywho, i know the DS is the better option for some people, but as i stated before a PSP is definitely the better choice due to the remote play, especially when Play TV finally hits the shelves! Yay!
Mallico 03-06-2008, 03:03 AM I love my DS to death, one of the best things I've ever bought.
You can find a game you like honestly it's impossible not to find a handful of good ones.
Tactical games like Advance Wars, FFXII Revenant Wings (RTS-ish) are awesome. There are a couple RPG games, the big ones being FFIII and soon to be FFIV. I know there are some Mortal Combat games and DBZ Supersonic Warriors 2 in the fighting genre.
Megaman Starforce, I'm not sure what I'd classify it as but it's sort of an action/strategy game. It's getting a sequel as soon as they're done translating it. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates is coming out and looks absolutely amazing. Not to mention FF Tactics 2.
There are so many games I've really enjoyed for DS, I think it's ignorant to say either one is the better choice though. I wouldn't mind getting a PSP some day.
Mr Eibmoz 03-06-2008, 05:10 AM PSP is by far the better system. DS though is by far the better portable GAMES machine. The way you can just fold it shut and the very nature of the games makes it much better than the PSP for on the go gaming. PSP is a great machine (expect that crrrrrrrap screen >_<) but its games require a dark room, headphones and your full attention.
ploogle 03-06-2008, 12:14 PM On the entire gameboy series the only good games were pokemon, the DS has MPH, Mario kart (the GBA one sucked), and more.
There we disagree, as with everything else, it seems...:D
The GBA had a few other good games...like Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories and Zelda: The Minish Cap. Sure, the GBA innovated the Pokemon series (something the DS pretty much failed to do), but you've got to look outside of the Pokemon bubble.
Maulzorz 03-08-2008, 06:20 AM There we disagree, as with everything else, it seems...:D

The thing is while the DS offers much much more Pokemon and Zelda were pretty much all the Gameboy series could offer.
Mr Eibmoz 03-08-2008, 07:52 AM Other than... Golden Sun, cracking Castlevania games, an excellent version of Rainbow 6 (for the tech), Doom1/2, (dispite the buttons) Street Fighter, Ninja 5-0, Advance Wars (still better than the DS ones)
I could go on and on. The GBA was a fantastic system.
mrpuggywuggy 03-08-2008, 12:15 PM I had a GBA Micro with Zelda The Minish Cap, Mario Kart, Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga, it's a great little system but as no new games are being made for the GBA i traded it in.
The only handheld i own now is a psp slim.
Millakilla 03-09-2008, 07:15 AM GBA/Colour had several final fantasys, some good sonic games and not forgetting the hundreds of multiplatform games that came out:D
This isnt a full list but here is a list of most of the GBA/Colour games:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Game_Boy_Color_games
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Game_Boy_Advance_games
And if im not mistaken GBa games are still getting produced.....
Seems a little much for this crap system /sarcasm
th3bun 03-09-2008, 11:24 AM Other than...
Advanced wars was a hellofa fun game.
Mallico 03-09-2008, 02:51 PM Yeah Advance Wars games are awesome, the new one for DS is way harder than the GBA series was. I never got around to playing Dual Strike on DS though.
Mr Eibmoz 03-09-2008, 07:40 PM Youre lucky, Dual Strike was an incredibly broken game. Lots of features, but they ruined the core gameplay.
n00bhunter 03-09-2008, 08:19 PM i owned a gameboy pocket (didnt fit in my pocket though) man i remember all the pokemon i played on that thing (when i was like 7)
Hollowcow 03-10-2008, 01:37 PM I am still looking for Golden Sun, a GBA game. I really want to play it but I can't find it anywhere :(
I guess I will try PlaySwitch or something.
th3bun 03-19-2008, 11:43 PM I am still looking for Golden Sun, a GBA game. I really want to play it but I can't find it anywhere :(

that or ebay.
Masselli18 03-22-2008, 06:50 PM i still have it somewhere
Albar 03-27-2008, 05:50 AM I own all three, but don't play any of them =/
nathanhale 03-27-2008, 06:30 AM yea i still have a gameboy color (pokemon special addition YES! CHARZARD I CHOOSE U!!) gameboy advanced, gameboy advanced sp, and gameboy micro. i really liked the gameboy micro because it was just really incredible how small it was.
i probably would of gotten a DS but my parents got me a psp on the assumption that ps was better. a year ago i would probably have traded it 4 a ds and a few games since all i ever played was freeking starwars battle front and a remake of midevil, but since patapon came out i am a proud psp owner!
chris24680 03-27-2008, 08:58 AM i own a see through purple one i only evrr bought two games for it though harry potter and monsters inc monsters inc was actually quite good.
AlmightyEmperor 03-28-2008, 07:12 AM I had an SP til i smashed through the screen after only being able to play harry potter 3 for 8 straight hours
FEARMASTER93 04-04-2008, 02:28 PM I still have my Gameboy Color, the little booklight that you plug into the side to play the games in the dark( the light is probably somewhere in a drawer... i think),my Gameboy Advance, My Gameboy Advance SP, and the original design for the Nintendo DS, before the lites came out. So yeah I have some uber awesome old nintendo stuff and a very old game super breakout for the color. It is still awesome!! Nintendo FTW:grin:
kingofnoland 04-05-2008, 05:49 PM I still have my colour, advanced, sp, and ds lite. Hardly play on any of them at all though, shame really, although it's the same with my psp. I've just fallen out with handheld's at the moment I guess. I even have a copy of patapon laying around that I really want to play but can never be bothered.
But back onto the topic, my gameboy's still get used. By my 8 year old brother. Keeps him quiet.
PopTrogdor 04-05-2008, 08:28 PM still have my original game boy, the big one, and my gameboy colour
wobyer 04-05-2008, 10:22 PM gameboy advanced sp. and about 20 games for it.
consolerpgdude 06-15-2008, 01:30 AM I still have a gameboy advance sp. Its the black and silver one. I also have a dslite now too though.
DeathByWaffle 06-17-2008, 07:48 AM I still have all of my gameboys. I own everyone except for the original. I probably should sell them or something, as I don't really play them...
IceKatana X 06-17-2008, 01:49 PM I still have two GBA's, they aren't both mine because I also have a little brother. One of them is really hard to play on since you have to press real hard on the directional pad to go places. I get on them occasionally but rarely ever.
I've got two original, brick GB systems, one Ice Blue GB Pocket, a purple Game Boy Color, an original GBA, GBA SP (NES-style, baby!), and my FamiCom GB Micro (which is the most played).
The Micro and the GBP honestly get the most attention, just the best screens I know of in the series to play games on. I started half-ass collecting for the GB/C, and it's becoming more and more my favorite collecting system.
I actually still have the original and a purple-looktrough-gamebot colour but after that I realised that handhelds kinda suck so I never bought one again.
th3bun 06-24-2008, 12:59 AM This post is still alive??
made this months ago.
----
But heres an update...
Due to the graphics and better games im starting to drift to PSP
Blackbirdd7 06-24-2008, 09:08 AM not an hand held fan
DeathByWaffle 06-24-2008, 01:57 PM not an hand held fan
Yeah, as a kid thats all I used, but I haven't touched my DS or GBA in a while.
zzz711 06-25-2008, 06:35 PM i had a original gameboy for a long time, but then the screen broke. i still have a gameboy color and a gba sp
th3bun 06-26-2008, 08:29 PM Dont know about you guys but
i think they should make
xbox 90 - handheld :]
TheWorldEndsWithMe 06-27-2008, 08:21 PM I actually just bought a Gameboy Micro.....
That turned out to be a mistake since I ended up buying a DS, but that's besides the point.
I do love my micro as the GBA has a fantastic library of games.
th3bun 06-28-2008, 11:44 PM Notice that all pokemon games basicly look the same and have the same objective. The only difference between them is different pokemon and characters.
Reddog 06-30-2008, 04:06 PM If there was a microsoft handheld I would buy it.
sayaintjimmy 07-01-2008, 09:05 AM i do but i dont play it
Dont know about you guys but
i think they should make
xbox 90 - handheld :]
Check out Ben Heckindorn's site, www.benheck.com. He makes portables out of so many different systems... I think he did an XBox 360, he "portablized" a PS3... so at least until Microsoft decides to make a handheld system (other than something like the Zune) it might be the closest you get/see. *shrug*
L0N3 S0LD13R 07-01-2008, 11:06 PM I still own my clear blue Gameboy Advance. Oh the memories that thing holds. I'm sure it still works. The only game I played was Pokemon. And Zelda, once in a while.
th3bun 07-07-2008, 01:35 AM i own a see through purple one i only evrr bought two games for it though harry potter and monsters inc monsters inc was actually quite good.
a purple what??
Brandonpop 07-07-2008, 03:52 AM I have a GBA and NDS already, so on the poll I would want the PSP. My cousin has it and he taunts me with it every time we meet.
chaingunpope 07-07-2008, 04:26 PM i plan on buying a PSP soon. i got rid of my DS due to a lack of games that interested me, and i got rid of the advance when i got the DS.
Waisybabu 07-07-2008, 04:45 PM I still own a GBA SP. Works fine. Got it around 2 years ago by winning a lucky draw! I got unlucky and got a GBA SP instead of a new Slim PS2. But now that I think about it, getting the GBA SP was better. I got to experience nintendo-ness fully.
Youlikeyams 07-07-2008, 06:08 PM I still have a GBA SP but I only ever bought one game for it before skipping on back into the girlish arms of Pokémon Yellow. If anyone wants to take it off my hands they're more than welcome to.
paulmess7 07-07-2008, 11:06 PM I do.
Wanna play online together? O wait we can't... Add me as a friend? O yeah, you can't do that either... ahh, now I remember why I love my 360 :)
L0N3 S0LD13R 07-09-2008, 11:52 AM Remember how bad the GBA was when you tried to play it in the dark. I hated that it had no backlight.
gigermunit 07-11-2008, 01:19 AM I still have my GBA & GBASP, sadly lost the GB after i got my GBC which was broken when mom threw it into the kitchen.....sad day....kinda like child abuse.
kingofnoland 07-16-2008, 02:34 PM hell, just today I played mario kart super circuit for gba,
Although I'm thinking of getting mario kart ds.
DaDillsta 07-16-2008, 02:49 PM I'll take that SP off your hands. xD
I had the regular GBA, so I decided one day to buy the SP. I go to the store, buy it in the red and bring it home, the next day I forgot it was still in my pants pocket so it went through my washer and never worked again.
Matttbh 07-18-2008, 12:00 PM Lime green Gameboy Colour and a silver GBA SP. Played the SP since very recently, but then the wonderous world of the PSP and those one-eyed-fighting-creatures-with-an-amazing-sense-of-rhythm was opened up to me.
Off Topic: Amazing .gif in your sig DaDillsta!
th3bun 07-24-2008, 01:00 AM Guys let me tell you something.
The Sp is the same as the GBA, the only difference is its smaller and has a backlight.
Waste of money. I would never get it.
banzaigtv 07-24-2008, 03:40 PM Morally I would say yes because if you have a Nintendo DS, then you also have a GBA since the DS has backwards compatibility with GBA cartridges.
egain 07-24-2008, 04:19 PM i picked the PSP because i already have a DS. So why would i need a gameboy either.
Kingspade1010 07-24-2008, 05:02 PM I miss those days when everyone loved playing pokemon heck now i want to play the game kind of and yes i still have a GBA
You gotta love the old days
th3bun 07-24-2008, 07:38 PM I miss those days when everyone loved playing pokemon heck now i want to play the game kind of and yes i still have a GBA
You gotta love the old days
Thats exactly how im feeling. You gotta keep some old memories.
Does anyone know if they even sell GBA's anymore?
Xenuftw 07-27-2008, 09:04 AM I never brought an advanced, i waited for a bit and got an advanced sp (the same but it's smaller and had a lite screen which is what i needed)
And yes like many others i miss retro pokemon, i need to find my old ones or buy them again. I still have yellow and my spanish version of red (i brought it from a school fate).
I can't find my pokemon crystal though which was my favorite game, but hey, could be worse at least i know where my ruby is. I leant it to a friend like a year ago.
They should re-release pokemon crystal that would be awesome =D
I have a ds but cling onto my sp because i can play some of the oldschool nintendo games
Edthefreak 07-27-2008, 12:31 PM My original GBA's screen got smashed pretty bad. So I don't have that. That's when I got a DS! Though I did take one of my friends GBA's because he has like 4 and didn't need them all. (don't know why he has that many) And I used that so I could play with more than one person on pokemon colisseum, and trade GBA pokemon. That's about it.
I wish I could still play Pokemon Yellow and Silver on those but they're so old you can no longer save on them.
Doty Tha Great 07-28-2008, 04:38 AM I have a pokemon yellow GBC, and blue Sp and a Gameboy Player on the Gamecube.
th3bun 07-28-2008, 03:48 PM I have a pokemon yellow GBC, and blue Sp and a Gameboy Player on the Gamecube.
You're a hardcorer nintendo fan?
gigermunit 07-31-2008, 02:44 PM I have a pokemon yellow GBC, and blue Sp and a Gameboy Player on the Gamecube.
wow the virginity keeper has been unlocked
seriously thats some hardcore nintendo fan
Spoony Bard 08-04-2008, 11:48 AM I have a Gameboy advance SP and a DS. Most of my GBA games I play on my DS, but from time to time I'll play them on the SP. I just like the way it looks, I guess. Plus it's smaller.
Doty Tha Great 08-04-2008, 07:55 PM You're a hardcorer nintendo fan?
wow the virginity keeper has been unlocked

Actually I the pokemon yellow GBC was my first gameboy, I had an original GBA, but it broke and I returned it to best buy and they gave me a deal so that I only had to pay $10 for a new GBA, and the Gameboy Player was like $30 on Ebay. I guess a while ago you could have said I was a hardcore Nintendo fan, but then for the most part I switched to the 360, seriously I only have 3 games for the Wii.
Truth N Justice 08-04-2008, 07:59 PM the DS is awesome , there are lots of fun games to play on it and it is perfect for playing while you take a dump. Oh yeah and it is good for getting your significant other into games.
th3bun 08-07-2008, 02:20 AM the DS is awesome , there are lots of fun games to play on it and it is perfect for playing while you take a dump. Oh yeah and it is good for getting your significant other into games.
I wonder if nintendo is going to make another version of the GBA (sp;ds;ect;)
cooleddie 08-07-2008, 09:38 AM I had the GameBoy color with Pokemon blue, but i lost it >:O. Then i got the SP, i lost it in school >:O. Then i got the DS, i still have it! but i dont play it...cause i got a PSP which owns the DS(sorry to all DS fanboys :-P)
Of course I still have my GameBoy Advanced. Granted I don't know where it is but I don't think I threw it out or anything.
Your right. The only thing I would play on that game is Pokemon. For me that was the only game that worked on the GBA.
Its weird. I would play Pokemon for 10 hours a day for weeks yet I don't enjoy RPGs anymore.
Hungry Luma 08-19-2008, 08:53 AM I have an orginal Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, Gameboy Advance SP, and a DS Lite. I know I was only supposed to say if I still have a Gameboy Advance but I felt like listing all of them.
chaingunpope 08-19-2008, 07:14 PM I actually still have my Gameboy Color, because I can't trade it in without the battery cover...
jonqgamer 08-24-2008, 10:41 PM I have the original gameboy (I was a tetris addict), gameboy advance, GBA micro, and DS, all along with my favorite; the PSP. They all work, by the way.
I Can Stop Time 08-24-2008, 10:46 PM it seems that nintendo handhelds are always top dog of the market and im glad
i have my gameboy, gameboy pocket i had a gameboy colour i have my gba and a ds lite
kmiddlestadt 08-25-2008, 01:28 AM Hey!! I've got the original Game Boy, Game Boy Pocket, and Game Boy Advanced. I keep them 'cause they're novel and as are my Atari 2600, Super Nintendo, and N64. Selling them all off wouldnt get me much money and i have so many memories playing on them with my cousins that I can't let them go.
th3bun 08-25-2008, 03:17 PM Hey!! I've got the original Game Boy, Game Boy Pocket, and Game Boy Advanced. I keep them 'cause they're novel and as are my Atari 2600, Super Nintendo, and N64. Selling them all off wouldn't get me much money and i have so many memories playing on them with my cousins that I can't let them go.
I know what you mean. Precious memories. And an update: I have recently bought a DS
zinc136 08-25-2008, 04:40 PM Indeed I still have my GBA and i absolutely never play it.
GB Advance is the best hand held ever so far. I wish they would press the prices down and sell the games some more around here. Missed some games like Final Fantasy IV and the lot because the prices make no sense while the DS was already out.
blade2k6954 08-26-2008, 03:20 PM I too still have my gba and never use it I was thinking about buying a psp but i'm still undecided as a broke gamer i can't really justify the price yet seeing that i'm rarely ever in the need of a handheld and umd movies failed big time
MmmLoganBerry 08-26-2008, 03:26 PM im a big ps fan so id pick the psp out of all of them
Delusional 08-27-2008, 06:09 PM I still have my old SP.
th3bun 08-28-2008, 01:10 AM You know guys... Come to think of it, Nintendo doesnt really have any problems with their systems.. unlike sony and microsoft ect; so Nintendos products are usually always good
