Yo Mods and admins! You should think about adding a Shoutbox into the forums. I've seen it on a couple of other sites and I think they are great for just a quick, hey and bs-ing instead of making a topic in the lounge that is totally unrequired. It might be annoying for you all to do, I'm not to sure about that, but it would be cool to have one.

I think most of us are too intelligent since the stupid people have been banned.

You could have it be a priveledge. Like, only people with a certain number of posts would be able to use it, and anyone who abuses it gets banned from shoutbox usage. I don't think it's really necessary, really, but I would like to see a VIP section or something.

-but I would like to see a VIP section or something.

That would alienate the community. Why should I for example get any more posting rights than someone who has just joined all because I have several more posts or joined a few months earlier?

Besides, why would a person qualify as being "very important"?

A no to a shoutbox too in my opinion. Cant stand the things.

Full of "OMG CHECK THIS" or "=]"

I've seen them on other forum sites. It's where the members of the community who have proven that they are responsible (no-spam) posters can have a place to post serious topics without fear of spam or (for the most part) flaming.

The only downside is, you'd have to ask a moderator for the ability to post in the section, which would flood the PM inbox of all the mods with requests. That alone makes it not very likely to happen.

I think we are very lucky here to not have any significant number of spammers - those who do get crucified.

I can see why it may be useful on some sites but I still dont like the idea for some reason. Just imagine you were the new guy and had to hit a target to reach the "VIP" area and surely that would increase spam?

I dont like divisions.

I thinka VIP area would add even more spammers-something no-one here wants.

How would a spam-free zone add MORE spammers? Especially when you have to be granted access...

Not that it's going to happen ever.

well, to get special access, people would spam to boost their post count...

I used to be part of another forum.
There was a chatbox on it, and it got weird.... like the conversations...
And it was full of spam.
Like people saying ;[;];];];];];;];];
Stuff like that. But making the box SO big that it was unruly and messed up the pages and whatnot.
The forums suffice, to me, at least.

I think that you are mistaken...as I remain. :D I think a checkbox in a specific part of the forum(not at the bottom of evary page, Ive seen that dose elsewhere and it sucks)

I think a chatbox or an irc chat would be cool but it could also cause more problems than its worth but i say try it out.

I don't know about a chat'box'. I've never really liked the things.

A chatroom, though, would be pretty cool. I know I like to spend some time in the AGI chatroom whenever I've got nothing to do, a SG chat room would have some interesting conversations in it.

There would be next to no way to moderate the chatroom, and as such it would get really raunchy and offensive really fast if the right (read: WRONG) people got on it.

actually a chat box is pretty easy to moderate. my other forum has one, and it's alot of fun.

I dunno, you get the right application - I'll go once again with the Allgames chat - and set up moderators. It might get pretty nasty late at night, but what chatroom doesn't?
The moderators would consist of all the forum moderators, and maybe a couple loyal forum members, and during the day we could keep the riff-raff in line.

I have a shoutbox a forum I run, and everyone on the site seems to enjoy it's use, and it's fairly easy to ban someone from it if they are causing issues, you simply take the user ID and put it in the box that is available in the vBulletin's ACP. It depends on what version of vBulletin you guys are running though.

I don't think categorizing people into VIP and non-VIP people would be very appropriate (mainly because I would be categorized as the squashed bug under a shoe!).
