Jesus... thanks for confirming my fears... my buddy's been working out like a mad-man and I've noticed my "gut" probably making the trip with me... it's too late to make an appreciable difference before PAX... I could stand to lose 20lbs, yeah... :( I've been riding my bike to work instead of driving, but I don't expect to lose any weight before going. It's a gaming convention, I'm sure I'll be fine.... ;) And I'm happily married (my wife and I have been together TWENTY YEARS, married for 13), so I'm not looking to attract any women either... as long as I don't show up and everyone looks like models... :lol:

Anyway, you can count on me representin' the "slight gut" crowd. *thumbsup*

And damn, is Lono a lawyer? I'm gonna have to REALLY lay the smack down now... I didn't realize he was a "pro"... :P

Some follow-up info from the podcast:

According to the SCEE president David Reeves (http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=26702), the rough difference in compatibility between the hardware and software based Backwards Compatibility is ~12% (the units out now are very close to 100% while the ones in Europe are ~88% -- his figures, not mine, I'd probably drop a minimum of 10% off each but they're both remarkably high -- and when you compare the BC library of the PS1+PS2 that's a cubic crapload of games). This is nowhere near a deal breaker in my book.

Also, on the price drop, the $599 80GB/MotorStorm bundle is clearly marked as a "Limited Edition" bundle. All expectations (including those of Michael Pachter (http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=6441&Itemid=2), analyst to the stars) say the $499 price is permanent... and as the 60GB w/Emotion Engine models dry up, the 80GB model will be unbundled and dropped to the $499 spot. Pachter is also predicting an early '08 price drop to $399 but expect Sony to flatly deny that for fear of dousing their holiday sales. There may be a short period where $499 units are hard to find but I full expect a rolling switchover in pricepoints.

In lieu of a price drop in Europe, they get the PS3 Starter Pack (which is a damned fine pack in comparison to most "official" bundles). They get a 60GB PS3, Resistance, MotorStorm, and a 2nd SIXAXIS controller for the cost that the PS3 was originally launched at. While I am not familiar with European pricing (Australia gets it too), that's $170 US thrown in at no additional cost. As someone that owns a 2nd SIXAXIS controller and both of those games... to me that's pretty slick. They don't get the Five Free Blu-ray movies deal the US gets though... or Amazon.com's free Blu-ray remote + Memento (a sixth free movie).

The naysayers on the 80GB model/bundle really piss me off as they show a very clear intent to bitch and moan regardless of what they want/get. They want a price drop and games... Games were shown and a price drop was announced, but instead they bitch about a model they didn't even know was coming out... go figure.

I mean to call someone's critique "bitching," especially about a sony product, the Kings of Bitching, (or should i say Queens??)especially when it comes to sony complaining about the 360 or the wii.... well all I have to say is Pot, meet mister kettel.

I meant to say this in this past episode.

Right now, We're juggling vacation schedules and stuff, so we're only getting these out every two weeks. As we head into the fall, our plan is to produce a weekly show.

In the meantime, the Fridays when a show doesn't come out, we're going to try to do those new pieces and release them through the podcast.

This is a question we're getting a lot. For now, you can count on bi-weekly installments. It's been very difficult to coordinate everyone's schedule, so while summer is on in full force, every 2 weeks.

Beyond that, the ultimate plan is to move to a weekly podcast, starting in September.

One thing we won't do, is a "once in a blue moon" thing. Since you guys (and several thousand others) have added us to your playlists, the podcast is going to reciprocate that with timely updates.

Tonight, we are recording episode 3, and it will be made available on Friday at the latest. (Episode 2 was released LAST friday.)

I'm pretty sure it was this episode that you guys said this, but although it was nice you apologized later for making fun of West Virginia, i happen to remember someone saying in the podcast "...no, you're thinking of Georgia." Being as the discussion was about inbreeding, I think you owe residents of both states an apology. I am a resident of Georgia, and I don't f*ck my sisters, because I don't have any. I do have a cousin, but she lives closer to Lono than she does to me (if you didn't get it, they both live in Chicago). I live in metro-atlanta, which has civilized people in it. I just think it is a little upsetting that you guys labeled an entire state as one demographic. Don't get me wrong, I love your show, but just be careful what you guys say, because sometimes it's not completely true.
