When you chose the Daveublary word, I liked several others words way better than the ones that got mentioned in the show. The same thing happened with this Dave name contest.
The name that won was simply Cliffy D, it was Lono who made it funny.

When I thought about which console to buy I looked straight at the ps3, because I couldn't be without Mgs4, LBP seemed interesting, Heavy Rain existed (I'm a fan of indigo prophecy) FFXIII was still exclusive and so on.
The 360 had RROD, it has a long warranty and such, but my last gen console was a ps2. Yup, the same ps2 that died the day I got god of war 2.
I was so pissed due to the Disc Read Error stuff, that I just couldn't bring myself to buy another console knowing that it may die on me.
And to this day, on the 360 I'd only want to play Fable 2, because the decisions part seem interesting, the new Banjo game, because the vehicle buliding seems like LBP with a reason to build stuff, and that's it.

Resistance 1 sucked hard, it was boring and average.

Resistance 2, only from what I've played in the beta is so much better. In every aspect.

If you like resistance 1 and don't like 2 there's something wrong with you.

How is that a flop? Mirror's Edge only has like an 80 on metacritic and it's still great...

Little Big Planet has an http://www.metacritic.com/_images/scores/games/95.gif (http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ps3/littlebigplanet), and I for one love it, but i never play it alone. So maybe having friends helps in this case.

Though the server problems the game had in the first week or so were unforgivable, they've been fine since then.

The only game that you brought up that you were right about is SOCOM. That game was terribly unfinished and it deserves all the flack it gets.

Seriously, I have no problem when you guys dog the PS3 when it's warranted, but dogging it out of sheer ignorance is pathetic.

I totally had to agree with the PS3 bit. I am a PS3 owner myself and I want it to be worth the money I invested. I'm disappointed with the way they handle the online issues and the issues with varies games. As it is now I play mostly on my 360 and I keep hoping for better days for the PS3. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fanboy, how could I be having both consoles. And for us as consumers it would be the worst thing to happen if these two companies would lose their biggest competitor.
But yeah, Sony needs to step up IMO. On all levels.

I can't believe you're still hearing it from the Sony crowd about too much Xbox on the red show after you devoted an entire podcast to the subject.

All the reasons you gave for problems with the console are the reasons I have not dropped the cash on the system yet.
I have contemplated getting one for the Blu Ray recently for Batman, Ironman and Band of Brothers, but there still is no compelling gaming reason for me to get one.
Please Note: I said For me.
Please do not give me a plethora of reasons I should have a PS3. I'm sorry but in the plus/minus columns for the 2 systems, the 360 still wins (for me) hands down.

Did you get the same Resistance 2 I got? I love this game, and have been playing the hell out of it. The campaign was intense, and the multiplayer rocks. Only complaint is ranked games are not very good. But just the 30v30 games are tons of fun. Plus the story alone was great. Give it a shot on difficult, maybe there were more enemies on the screen or something, but it was just so much fun.

Amazing game when played with people. It is a co op game. You see this by every level having "x2" puzzles. Get a group of 2-4 buddies, and play around. The sheer amount of fun you will have slapping eachother / dressing up sack people / doing puzzles is awesome. Hell it is even fun to grab someone and run them into some fire. I do agree if you play it solo, it is just an average game.

Socom, yeah they screwed up on it. But I had no intention of playing it.

PS Home- At this point no one cares, so yea Sony did screw themselves here.

while i do believe the ps3 is not living up to its full potential i do also believe some of the things said during this episode not exactly true, at least from my standpoint. i am excited about all the ps3 exclusives and multi-platform titles. i still want to play SOCOM and PS Home despite their reputation. R2 and LBP are still on the top of my must play list.

not owning a 360, i have little desire to play 360 games but i am nearly being convinced because of the appeal of fable 2 and gears 2, they look great. the ps3 has plenty of games this holiday and i do believe they are delivering the hype, it's just the fact everybody has a negative attitude going into this holiday season because of the lack of success of the ps3.

being a ps3 owner, i've rarely been disappointed with my ps3. i've enjoyed all the games i've bought because i do the research before i buy. the only time i've really been disappointed with my ps3 is pre-2.40

i'm a huge pc gamer and so when something really goes wrong or if something's not right, i can handle it, which is why i don't feel as though the ps3 is screwing that badly. point being, i dont think things are that bad owning a ps3 or at sony for that manner, which is how it sounded in this episode.

I really want to get Mirrors Edge, but i dont know, got shit to buy and i still got WoTLK to play :S there are way too many games out there right now :(

Ok, well you may have had 3 xbox 360's lono, i had 3 xbox 360's in one day. Beat that, and beat my frustration. Never had any problems with my PS3, but having to spend £20 on transport just to take my 360 back twice to the shop just so i can actually use it...now that's underwhelming.

I'm already done with gears 2, been there finished it, done with it. ****ing good game, but im not up for its multiplayer. DONE.

I love my PS3 more than i love my 360, and for me, it's easily reaching what i want from it and more.

Whatever, this year, is the year of the Gamer! I win! If you have a 360 and a PS3, you win.

On the humpday update, I'll review the single player campaigns of Resistance 2, Gears 2 and we'll talk a little about Fable 2 and get the songs from Doc.

As for Emophia, R2 single player sucks. Multiplayer is good, which is what EVERY reviewer has said about the game and the metacritic scores reflect that.

Please don't live and die by the Metacritic scores. I have consistently said that the single player from R2 sucks. And that's it. I didn't say the entire thing sucks, so people, please check yourself before posting. Thanks.

Wassup SG My name is Kevin and I would Like to Thank You guys for putting on a Great podcast week after week. You Guys have a passion for games and it shows. You Guys Help me get through my days working at a state hospital.
Just Listened to the podcast and agreed with the remarks you guys made about The PS3. The school I go to I have friends who keep saying that the 360 is a piece of crap system and the PS3 is way better. Just want to get this out in the open, I enjoy my 1st 360( didn't crap out yet thank God) I like the online service, cause a lot of people I know who game have accounts on XBL, and we can hook up and play anytime. Love getting shows and movies and games on the service. My friends keep riding me cause i have to pay to play online, but your getting a stellar service that has been around since the original XBOX and hasn't disappointed me yet. The Library of Games both on disc and download are immense and majority are worth playing one time, just to add more achievement points to your gamer tag. I am Planning to Buy a PS3, But there isn't much left for me to warrant a purchase.Majority of there Once Exclusive games are now on 360 with the exception of 1st party games and for the time being MGS4( I know the quality won't supposedly be the same but hey if people waited to play Bio shock on ps3 and seeing how it turned out I can't wait for MGS4 on 360). I'll admit, No Region Coding is beautiful (about damn time somebody did this) so when Tatsunoko VS Capcom comes out i can play it without the character edits Capcom will make in order to not get sued by people who own the licenses for the characters in order to get a US release. and The fact that it plays Blue Ray ( a fact 40% of PS3 owners didn't know it did. DAMN) doesn't matter when you can get a stand alone blue ray player for $300 now at certain stores. Its far from a bad system, but with a few exceptions ( War Hawk, Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, Infamous, and LBP) Its a under performing system, just like the Wii. Just because it doing is numbers hardware-wise doesn't mean you shouldn't have games for that base of owners. It needs to bring back the games that made the PS1 a hit. Twisted Metal, Jet Moto, Dark Cloud, Rogue Galaxy, Ico Series, hell Jumping Flash and Battle Arena Toshinden should be brought back to the next gen ERA. and instead of releasing them like in the same week as equally huge releases on competitor systems, bring them out in times where they don't really expect anything to come out. and Another price drop ( at least $50) wont hurt you as much since you're still taking a lost per each system sold. and if you're gonna release something, try to release it ASAP to keep it Relevant ( Where's Home? is it gonna be the next Duke Nukem Forever?) I may sound a little fan boy-ish but according to the NPD sales for The past 10 months, majority of the time the PS3 was last in sales. Man Lie, Women Lie, Numbers Don't. SCE, Please Step Up and be the gaming company you were in the past. Don't be Nintendo and stay stagnant in the water. Microsoft is making moves every month and keeps getting better. Do the same. You got the money, now use it. Bring more to the table, unless being last suits you well.

As soon as "Super Ninja Girl" left Doc's mouth, I couldn't help but :lol: I saw the impending razzing he was about to endure (And probably will continue to). That's what Dave's nickname should have been. It would have been epic.

As for the whole PS3/360 debate thing, I side with Lono. I like my Wii. I hardly ever go anywhere without my DS or PSP. I love my 360. And yet, I weep for my sad, neglected PS3.

I feel bad for people when they say that they dropped a good chunk of cash on their PS3 to collect dust (Luckily, I won mine in an online Ninja Gaiden Sigma contest, it didn't cost me a dime. *unleash the hounds, I know*).
Unless Sony kicks their catalog into overdrive and/or drops the price, we'll never hear the end of people pointing out the fact that they have hardly any really big exclusives (I realize they have Little Big Planet, but that's not selling anywhere near what it should be), and we'll be stuck with people who have to defend their purchase of the sleek, sexy electronic brick they blew half their life savings on. Hell, I'll be one of the first people up to defend it- It's damn sexy. The graphics are beautiful, the picture is amazing, the box itself is stylish. It's just the fact that it costs to frakking much, and has a lackluster library compared to the other systems out that it has to crash and burn in the annals of internet flamewar history.

Come on Sony, I thought we had a good thing going. I loved you for years. Lets go back to the way things used to be- you, me, a good game, and a night of fiery passion.

Personally, I have to agree with the guys on this one. PS3 is cool but it has so many problems i just don't consider it anymore, but hey that's just me. (For the record, i still love all the old PS2 games like Jak and Daxter, The old NFS, etc.)

Mirror's Edge really does make you feel like a super hero, though.

My thoughts exactly! It's around 9 over there...

so i finally got around to listening to this Podcast and there are parts of your guys' PS3 gripes that i agree with, but some i don't. i think my biggest issue is you guys make the 360 to make it sound MUCH better than it actually is. yeah, i know the PS3 has had it's issues, and it still has some minor issues, but there just isn't anything mindblowing coming out for the 360 either.

i don't believe you guys are intentionally biased towards the 360, but you are. plain and simple. i mean, you can't compare exclusive games between the two systems this year and say the 360 is better. granted, i couldn't say the PS3's exclusives are better (even though two out of the five games up for GOTY for the VGA's are PS3 exclusives :lol:).

i don't think the PS3 is the cure for cancer (pun intended), but i think you guys put it down WAY more than it deserves is all. MGS 4 and LBP are two of the best games to come out for years (according to a lot of people... i am personally bored of MGS). i know lono seems to think that LBP isn't worth the hype it got, but how many people are still talking about fable 2? far cry 2? fallout 3? not many... everyone is talking about COD: WaW and L4D right now. why? because they came out within a week. there are just so many AAA titles coming out one after another that people aren't continually talking about any of them like they would if nothing else big was coming out around the same time (for example: GTA 4).

what is the point of this rant? i dunno... not much of a point i guess... but maybe you guys should just admit to being a 360 show and leave the PS3 stuff to roth, PMPB, and Frawlz. :lol:

Sorry Ala... but I'm on the the other side for this one. I only own a PS3 but this year was a huge disappointment. I don't think the guys were trying to say that Sony had a terrible year... but this should have been the year where the PS3 really left it's mark and it didn't. It was kind of just mediocre. I can see where Doc is coming from on this one... Not that I regret my decision to get a PS3 in the slightest (As you said... it was hardly the year of the 360 either).

The PS3 had a really good year, but it wasn't the year it should have been. There is always next year though.

It's clearly not the year of the PS3 no matter who says it. Fanboys, PR, Sony execs, etc. The sales of there games talk a whole lot louder than the gibberish that come from any of there mouths. Sony has turned from the leading Goliath tearing everything within it's path to spin doctors telling flat out lies & making excuses about every little thing. I mean seriously, MGS4 is the best selling game BY FAR on the system & it's up in the air if the thing is even a damn exclusive anymore.

Little Big Planet may barely make 1 million sales by the end of the year. It's over 600,000 right now so it still has a chance. That game should of sold 1 million on day one with the publicity & hype it got. EVERY publication I could think of was hyped for this. Even I was pumped for it. Got it, was a blast...... for 1 hour. The magic of it is the map design but even with that you can only do so much. Slapping your friends around gets boring after the 100th you've done it. Jumping, falling, grabbing, running. That's the whole game right there. It's like Mario 2.0 without the memorable characters. Nothing special really.

Resistance 2. Didn't bother. Gears of War 2 puts it to shame & the max it can do is a 5 vs 5 multiplayer game! Excluding horde mode. Sad, very sad. Sony will have to Rely on its third party games to help it get through this Holiday season. They are stupid to not drop the price. The Wii is already stomping them both & with the Xbox 360 much more price friendly in time for Holiday shopping, it should slaughter the PS3 in sales.

I've not read all of these posts about the PS3 rant, but I was surprised and disappointed in the way the red show crew basically blasted what is a very good and improving console as a useless, nothing works piece of junk. Can you really say that the PS3 has no good features or games whatsoever? I wrote in my itunes review of this show, that they are not fanboys and talk about all systems. Thinking about that now, I realise that they rarely talk about PS3 versions of games and when they do it's to dismiss them. Personally, if I had chosen a console which breaks down completely, requiring a replacement to be sent out - not once, but many times to many people- that would be the major factor in my attitude towards it. I wouldn't stand so steadfastedly by it, that I would slam the competition. Doc etc claim to like nothing more than competing consoles, but not it seems to me, in order to have a broader choice in gaming, but to keep that otherwise paragon of corporate responsibilty and customer respect, Microsoft, honest. I sound like a PS3 fanboy, and I am because I have one and love it. I also think that Microsoft make excellent software which is the market leader because it is very good and works well - what other industry fines the best manufacturer so that inferior, less popular products can sell more?
Anyway, enough of my ranting. HDUD was funny though - "Praise it's hallowed Name".

The PS3 isn't even my primary gaming console... i'm one of the VERY few on here who primarily games on PC, so take that into consideration...

if you think so many people think you're biased towards the xbox because of this episode alone, then you've got some screws loose upstairs, lono. i've never said the PS3 is perfect, i've always admitted where it has it's faults (and it does), but i think you guys ARE biased towards the 360. why do you think rothbart and them decided to make a playstation podcast in the first place? you guys really make the 360 (which i would like to have some day) sound like God's gift to the video game and the PS3 is just a big, pretty paperweight.

well first off, if you guys are under the assumption that i'm angry or upset about the show, i'm not... not at all. i just said that it seems like they are biased. i didn't condemn the show to hell or state that i'm not going to listen to it anymore. why is it not possible to leave a comment that's not kissing your feet without getting jumped upon by a bunch of people? i made an observation. that's it. if you want me to keep any negative feedback to myself, then by all means tell me. i'm not losing sleep over it and i don't like or respect you guys any less because of it, but come on, don't jump down my throat because of one negative comment towards your show...

True, Dioterm, but I'm not sure that Ala was necessarily saying that bias was a bad thing, just that it was there. It's also I'd guess kind of inevitable when one third of your podcast doesn't have a Playstation, but you all have 360's. That of course results in the knock on effect that games tend to be bought on the 360 to be played rather than the PS3 as it gives you a wider circle of friends to play with.

Hell, something quite significant just struck me about price marking there, but I'll stay on topic. Just.

I am certainly not complaining about this preference. People are entitled to their own opinion, and as you said, it's born from experience with both systems that I don't have. But I thought the criticism was perhaps a bit heavy as all the big consoles have had some nasty faults this year, but it was saved by Doc and Dave pointing out that the console of the year was, like it or not, the Wii. Difficult to argue the show has massive 360 bias when they freely admit the most succesful console of the year is one they admit they like least. ;)

I was one of the podcasters proclaiming this years as the year of Sony, and I do think while their sales have improved greatly I may have to eat my words next month.

Well let's just say I usually love being on the same side as Lono in a match. He's one heck of a squad leader. But in Left 4 Dead he should always play Zoe because he runs away like a girl and doesn't come back for his buds.


LOL. When I was playing one the other side as a zombie, we won only because all the zombie players concentrated on attacking Lono almost exclusively.

LOL I was playing with BlinkinCard today and we were at the dock. Our two teamates had died and a tank was coming. Thats when the boat showed up. Blinkin went in the house to get ammo and the tank busted in and killed him so I just booked it to the boat :)

I am not a Nintendo fanboy by any means, but I have to agree with Doc and Dave on this being Nintendo's year. Yes, the Wii does not have much, except Fit and the console. But, what most people forget about when talking about Nintendo is the DS. This thing won't stop selling and comes out with games all the time. Most people I know own one or two and are crazy about them. Why do folks forget about the DS?

As for the PS3, I was not a fan until my 360 died for the 5th time. So, I started transferring my games over to the PS3. Sadly, this may become the reason why people go toward the PS3. I wound up purchasing Fallout, Mirror's Edge, The Force Unleashed, Silent Hill, and Dead Space on the PS3 because my 360 crapped out yet again. So, I am becoming slowly a PS3 fan because frankly, I like playing my games.

Speaking of Left 4 Dead, Lono last night i joined your lobby and you kicked me...what was that all about? But from what I'm hearing it's a good thing considering you would've left me to die anyways :D

I have to agree that this has not been the Year of the PS3, Because the Blu Ray and Metal Gear are really the only really special things out. LBP did have some issues but that doesn't mean it's a load of crap. :undecided:
Personally I think that the fact that the 360 is getting more content than the PS3 is all of these companies, like Rockstar, Being XBots.

OR it could be they are used to writing on PC, and 360 has similar architecture AND a very large user base. Rockstar, Im not so sure about that (since they never did much for PCs to start with), but this is a trend I see in ALOT of them.

Even though I hate the ps3 with a vengeance I would have to say that the wii is like paying 250 dollars to go see a movie and then the movie screen shows a giant action scene for the first 10 minutes and then suddenly switched to kids shows.

Because the internet has made it cool to hate on game consoles. There are some systems (Wii and PS3) that get all kinds of hate because it's just cool to hate them. Just like around a hundred years ago when it was considered socially acceptable and encouraged to hate on African Americans, Chinese, and whomever else. Humans are very social creatures, and the need to belong to a community drives us. We have an innate need to be accepted by other humans, and our minds will rationalize almost anything in a desperate attempt to belong. That's the principle behind racism, death cults, and other vile things of the sort. As long as we're humans, and as long as there is more than one option for us to choose from, we'll form sides and justify things that just don't make sense.

Now, there are matters of opinion that depend on your individual self and life experience that play into all of this, which is what makes us all unique. I'm not saying that there's a horribly evil choice every single time there are multiple options, or that everyone who disagrees with me is wrong. Well...you are...but that's another breakdown for another time. :lol:
