View Full Version : Xbox 360: Halo 3 Edition

In the elevator where I work, I rarely see headlines that interest me. Today, however, I saw one that woke me up. MS announced a Green and Gold version of it's Xbox 360. The "Halo" edition.
I am sure there are hardcore Halo 3 fans that will beg to differ (to put it mildly), but isn't this a bit of overkill? First came the controllers, then the Helmet edition of the game (that's what I call it), and the comic books.
I can understand a faceplate or a theme, but a whole damned system? Isn't this catering to a very finite group of individuals that possess both the capital, and the extreme enthusiasm for the Halo brand? If that's your cup of tea.... Have at it.
Seems to me that MS might want to get it's heat and scratching issues under control before they go and modify their consoles in any way. Instead of a Halo edition, they might want to consider a Halon edition. That way, when your system begins to meltdown from the tremendous heat, you could hit a button and release a few cubic feet of the mildly carcinogenic fire-retardant into the 360 and cool it down.I've enjoyed countless hours of playing Halo, and Halo 2. I know there are many people out there who have dedicated their lives to the franchise. But I think the hype surrounding the release of Halo 3 is raising expectations to an all-time high. The final product had better deliver the goods, or the boys in Redmond might have to invest in napkins to wipe the egg off of their faces when this is all said and done. In poker terms: They're ALL-IN.

Lono_Lives 07-11-2007, 02:28 PM But seriously Doc, I couldn't agree more. The hype machine is outta control, but still.......Dang that new trailer looks pretty. I want a Brute Chopper now!
Captiosus 07-11-2007, 03:27 PM Can't imagine why anyone is shocked.
I know I'm not.
There was a clear, green Halo custom edition of the original Xbox brick console with custom controllers (http://www.schmack.us/images/ss-xb-Halo-BUNDLE.jpg) and a whole bunch of custom stuff like a custom Halo 2 headset by Plantronics.
A custom H3 system was inevitable.
CaptainDDL 07-11-2007, 03:53 PM I might've been interested, if Halo 3 was included with the system.
Altered_Weapon 07-11-2007, 07:11 PM They should put the system inside of the helmet and put extra fans in the extra space.
Brute chopper, eh, I should paint my bike like one.
rothbart 07-11-2007, 10:59 PM Xbox 360 "Hello WTF" Edition! Isn't it funny how WTF backwards is FTW?!
So in this case it's WTF FTW!
How about Xbox 360 Reliable Edition™, that should increase consumer confidence and sales... you'd think.

ROFL.... Reliable edition. Hey in case i don't talk to you... GREAT job on the last VGS Podcast. You were the star. Really awesome. When are you coming on the SG Podcast?
Lumpydonut 07-11-2007, 11:04 PM More HALO!!!
phloidf787 07-11-2007, 11:16 PM This seems like an utter waste of time and money. I've never seen the appeal in special edition systems. I guess if you like a game whatever, as for me I'm fine with my systems the way they are. I don't want a special edition PS3 for the next Hitman game that will kill me an make it look like an accident (Not that something like that would ever happen, just showing a ludicrous example to further my point). Anyway, I feel bad for the super fanboys that will go out and buy one, despite owing a 360 since launch.

Shhh! You're giving away Microsoft's secrets.
I'm convinced they're not going to be happy until there's as many X360 SKUs as there are Vista Editions.

Thanks. You laid that on a bit thick, but thanks.
When are you coming on the SG Podcast?
I thought you weren't set-up for remote participants. Anytime you want me, just ask and I'll check my availability (my PC sits right in the main living area so I have to boot "the fam" to do podcasts for now).
Which reminds me... what city/state are you located in? More importantly, what imezone.[/i]
CrAzE 07-14-2007, 09:03 PM Halo...Blah...
Tiannam 07-15-2007, 12:31 AM Halo 3 edition Xbox 360-
Here's what it really is meant for, It's $400, comes with an HDMI port, and a plug and play cord. So basically, if you don't want the 120g HDD but want an HDMI port, this is the console that is for you. It's also decked out with awesome Halo art, but that is an opinion :D
Spudnik 07-16-2007, 01:34 AM If you ask me Halo is a game blown way out of proprtion. All it is is basic run and gun gameplay with a run of the mill storyline. The first one came out at launch when the xbox didn't have many good games and so it kind of took off. Does the game really deserve it's own console NO. I agree with Rothbart they should focus on making the 360 more reliable.
rothbart 07-16-2007, 03:28 AM So the Premium is $400 and comes with no HDMI and a 20GB HD.
The Halo Edition is $400 and comes with HDMI and a 20GB HD.
The Elite is $479 and comes with HDMI and a 120GB HD.
Wow, they've homed in on their missing target audience! The ones who want HDMI but don't want to be bothered managing that extra 100GB of storage for $80.
I generally sigh at both Sony and Microsoft's attempts to release new models... at least Sony's not acting like they're anything significantly different/better... The name "Elite" still makes me chuckle... I guess the new hire in marketing probably was right that "Elite" made a better name than "Model we should've released originally but because the HDMI spec wasn't done then we're releasing it now, but for some reason we're more comfortable shipping with HDMI 1.2 when 1.3 is the standard for all new hardware from other companies". Although he probably did it merely from an ink-saving perspective because that's too damned many letters to be printing out all over the place... even the acronym is nasty... MWSROBBTHDMISWDTWRINBFSRWMCSWHDMI12W13ITSFANHFOC.
But seriously, we've all seen themed consoles before... but this one's got different/unique specs which makes it an oddity. It's almost like they said it was going to be... HDMI dribbling down to the "lower" models...
CaptainDDL 07-16-2007, 12:40 PM Yeah, they talked about that on one of the more recent KOXM podcasts...they believe that in a few months, all 360 Premiums will come standard with a HDMI port.
darkwonders 02-15-2008, 12:31 AM I'm so confused... why the hell does this keep being bumped to the front when nothing new has been posted? Did lono break the forums again?
strika234 02-15-2008, 10:32 AM every once in a while, theres a glitch...
just let it go by and it'll be fine...
Link97 02-17-2008, 11:28 PM What's wrong with praising Halo Jesus? You all know Master Chief is the second coming of Jesus.
piston11792 02-24-2008, 10:46 PM waste of money
