View Full Version : Anyone else pissed about backwards compatibility?
zenosake 07-11-2007, 04:34 AM So yeah, I'm one of those morons that was seduced by the flashy buttons and eccentric controller of STEEL BATTALION. I bought it kinda late though and when 360 came out I was way bummed that my $170 game is worthless now unless I want to swap out the massive xbox whenever I want to play it.
Beyond that it just seems like a really stupid decision to not allow xbox games to be played on 360. I heard it was more of a hardware deal or something and not just a decision not to allow old games besides halo 2 or whatever to be backwards compatible. Very irksome.
ghoti 07-11-2007, 06:50 AM Most of the Xbox's catalogue is compatible with the 360 though, isn't it?
I mean, the main obstacle to playing Steel Battalion on the 360 would be the fact that the controller can't be plugged into the 360 anywhere.
Volkov 07-11-2007, 08:40 AM There are a lot of Xbox games with 360 support.

Lumpydonut 07-11-2007, 01:48 PM The BC at first kinda made me mad because there are a few games that I would like to play, but they are not on there. Then I realized that I hardly ever go back and play any of the ones that I can play, even Halo 2, so I really quit caring.
Altered_Weapon 07-11-2007, 10:57 PM What is the obsession with BC when Current Gen games are what we focus on and buy. I understand that games don't have a shelf life, but they do have a gamer-attention life. Which is really short.
CaptainDDL 07-12-2007, 12:04 PM Because we spent a lot of money on games for last-gen consoles, and we'd like to play those games on the current-gen consoles. Obviously we could keep the old systems around, but when you could do it all with one, why?

Personally I would RATHER have them focus their efforts on things like... new games and... heatsinks.
THere's no revenue for the makers to gain by making anything BC. So I don't see why they're making anything BC. BC was a sales tool for the 360, and it's time has come and gone... I think.
When Halo3 launches... I think we'll see that in earnest.
I'm sure you're game will work, but you're gonna have to ditch massive panel.

Yea. Although I did use my BC today. Hot chick came over and the only game she could beat me at was DoA Ultimate :P

Now, yes. It used to be a big deal though. I rarely touch any of my original Xbox games anymore.
And Eric, why don't I believe you? :p

because you are an ass, and not used to me admitting that I lost :P
Captiosus 07-14-2007, 02:14 AM I've oft wondered why MechAssault has never made it onto the list, but MechAssault 2 did.
zenosake 07-15-2007, 03:27 AM I can see what you're saying about focusing on new games but isn't microsoft mainly just working on console shit? They are putting out some games & whatever but I feel they should have at worked a little more on BC or made some kind of adapter for eccentric peripherals like steel battalion. Doesn't seem like that'd be too difficult, but what do I know.
I got a ps2 as well and having all their 1st gen games BC was wicked cause it let me check out an assload of rpgs and random games I never heard of till later, and it improved the graphics if even to a mild extent. Also I guess I just dig wacky huge controllers for games & I got the flightsticks for ace combat 5 and I'm gonna be way pissed if it won't work for ace combat 6 for ps3 and if not it'll be one more reason not to buy one.
It's understandable that not everyone really pulls out their old games & stuff but I bought my xbox pretty late in the game and there are still a bunch of games I wanted to play for it that I haven't yet. I just really don't want two massive hulking consoles to play xbox games. Gamers like me who are I guess dumb enough to invest all this money in these expensive ass games with crazy controllers & peripherals & shit just kind of get stabbed in the back not being able to use them on newer consoles.
CrAzE 07-15-2007, 10:23 PM I think Sony is trying to use a Strategy with the PS3 to keep the PS2 alive.
Think about it, its a pretty good plan. The only bad thing about it is that they will be pissing of their consumers, but then again thats too late.
Spudnik 07-16-2007, 01:09 AM I think Sony should stop pointing out how well the PS2 did and is still doing and start working on the PS3 the fact that the PS2 did well later on does not also make it fact that the PS3 will. As for BC I see nothing wrong with the occasional update for it as I really bought a 360 to play 360 games not Xbox games. MOst of the greats are either already backwards compatible or getting there.
CrAzE 07-16-2007, 01:17 AM Really, they can't or shouldn't take away Backward Compatibility!
You know how much I spent on them old games?!?!?
Spudnik 07-16-2007, 01:26 AM Im not saying they shouldn't have BC it's just that it shouldn't be their main focus. They should be working harder to make new games not allow the old ones to run
duffydirect 07-18-2007, 01:46 AM my only thing with backwards compaitibility is that some of the best multiplayer games (that is, with buddies in your apartment or with my girlfriend) are xbox 1 games that don't work anymore. kung fu chaos was 100x better than small arms in the arcade, for example. The co op in 007 everything or nothing was awesome. i also really want to play advent rising and riddick (without having to rebuy it for the 360!!!!) on my 360. There's even some games that were high def. on the first xbox (i dont know why thats touted as a new feature of this generation) like freedom fighters and dragons lair that i would like to play. one of the reasons pc gaming will always be better than consoles is because even if vista wont run some older games or whatever you can run a virtual machine and play old games. i played star wars rebellion this week a lot more than i played any of my xbox games. and iwth services like gametap the sky is the limit, you know? i think instead of making consoles microsoft should be making gaming rigs for the cheap.
jeff1010322 07-19-2007, 09:16 PM I was a little mad at first because I couldn't play most my old games but once I got more 360 games, I had no desire to play my old games besides halo 2 and at least they allow that one. My dad was mad though he plays 360 also and they don't allow the tiger woods golf game that he played lol. Once halo 3 comes out I won't care about backwards compatability.
CrAzE 07-19-2007, 10:17 PM What if Halo 3 sucks???
EvilFiek 07-20-2007, 08:52 AM The only issue I had with BC was that the list was somewhat "selective". Games like PGR2 or DoA Ultimate only made it recently on the list. And with games like PGR3 or DoA4 being Day 1 titles I think it's obvious why they have been omitted from the BC list for so long.
PurpleElite 10-22-2007, 10:57 PM You have Steel Battalion? High five dood.
KeavyRain 10-23-2007, 10:24 PM Originally the 360 didn't have BC and it was only added at the last minute because people wanted it.
On top of that its software BC so quit yer bitchin'. At least Microsoft didn't give us hardware BC at the beginning then drop it ten months after the console launched.
Canuck 10-24-2007, 01:35 AM Thanks for reviving a 3-month-old thread.
